What to Expect at Your First Canine Hoopers Session

Starting a new club or class can always feel a little daunting, perhaps you have a dog that is confident and knows all their cues at home but acts like they haven’t got a clue what you’re asking of them in the training field.
Arrive 5 minutes before class to allow your dog to sniff around the field and get acclimatised. You dog is may feel a little apprehensive in a new environment so try not to stay still too long, keep them moving and allow them to sniff.
You will need bite size light treats for your dog which can be easily found when thrown on the ground; find out what we recommend here. Our classes are either in the morning or in the evening, so try to only feed them half of their breakfast or dinner before class. Remember, dogs should rest for at least an hour after exercise, if they have eaten food that expands when wet, wait 2 hours.
Do you have a dog that doesn’t always come back when called? We want you to build up confidence by using a light long line. Just like you would on a dog walk, you wouldn’t allow your dog to run up to a strange dog that’s on lead. The social scenes in the work show the complexity of interpersonal relationships.
